Installer Update and Other Stuff
beta, vitadesktop October 31st. 2007, 9:14pmThere’s been a lot of people who haven’t been able to install VitaDesktop since they do not have Microsoft .NET version 2.0+ installed. Up until now, if a user tried to install the program and didn’t have the appropriate .NET version, they’d be presented with a friendly message notifying them of this along with instructions on how to download the correct .NET version.
I think this may have turned off some people…
So, to make this process easier for everyone, I’ve updated the setup utility to give you the option to automatically download and install .NET for you, if the minimum required version isn’t already installed. I’ve also added an installer for 64-bit systems, which will also download the 64-bit version of .NET if necessary.
In other news, expect an update to VitaDesktop by next Wednesday!
If you have any feature requests to be included in the next update, please feel free to post them in the comments or in the forums.
The latest installers can found in the Downloads section.
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Anita,
Of course I can help!
Would you be able to tell me the error code you’re receiving when running the update? Also, are you updating from inside VitaDesktop (using “Check for Updates”) or are you installing for the first time?
32-bit and 64-bit refer to your CPU architecture. The explanation would be a bit technical, so I won’t get into it here (unless you’d like me to, that is). With Windows Vista, it’s safe to use either 32-bit or 64-bit programs, so I would recommend running the 32-bit intstaller.
Another question: did you install the 64-bit edition first? If so, did you also upgrade to .NET 2.0 using that installer?
The 64-bit version of the .NET framework (or any app for that matter) is not backwards compatible with a 32-bit architecture.
If that’s what happened then you should uninstall .NET 2.0 and then run the 32-bit VitaDesktop setup, which will install the correct version of .NET for you.
Please let me know the answers to the above questions and I’ll try and help you with this.
Thank you,
Michael
